I have never been one to wish time away, but we are less than a month away from Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Lent is the forty days leading up to Easter not counting Sundays. It is time spent praying and fasting. Many will give up certain habits. As you prepare for Lent are there things you need to examine in your life?
In Matthew 7:1- “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2- For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3- “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4-How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? So, often we hide behind this scripture and don’t speak up when we see people heading the wrong direction in life. Yes, we all have planks in our eyes and God wants us to get rid of them to help others get the speck out of their eye. 5-You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. So, often we hide behind this scripture and don’t speak up when we see people heading the wrong direction in life. Yes, we all have planks in our eyes and God wants us to get rid of them to help others get the speck out of their eye. We are in this together because we make up the body of Christ. We don’t like to be corrected, but it is necessary. Think about it, if you are good friends with someone and they are doing something that is going to hurt them; wouldn’t they expect you to say something. Of course they would want you to speak up. You wouldn’t love them if you didn’t say something.
So, the question before us is simple, what planks and specks do we need to get out of our eyes this coming Lent to build up the body of Christ?
